Another Day
So there I was listening to the buzz -and I started singing along to a song I’ve never heard before but yet, I knew ALL the words. As my sister calmly said… “wait for it….” It totally hit me! THEY WERE COVERING CREEP BY TLC! Man, does that song take me back to 7th grade. I mostly listen to rock and alternative and indie bands now… and back in middle school and high school so many rap & r&b songs took from rock and pop music -it was kinda cool to hear it the other way around.

rhumba vases

Sometimes the prettiest thing is the vase, not the flowers, as in this case. These are so great for friends without greenthumbs
. The vase is definitely pretty enough to stand on its own, and at $8.95-12.95 ea, they definitely look way more expensive than they are!

Nixon Vega

The Nixon Vega watch comes in delightfully yummy colors and sans an ugly (and cruel!) leather strap. Sure, you could go with a groovy Swatch Watch or a metal strap but this truly stands out. Select the light pink watch and a portion of proceeds go towards breast cancer research.
Good to know: I’ve heard from some of my east-Asian friends that receiving watches is actually a bad omen. On the otherhand, this is a great gift for your vegetarian/vegan friends!!!

I Read Banned Books Bracelet

I’m usually not one for gimmick jewelry but this might be a good gift for the book lover and/or your free-speech-activist.
Created for the Americal Library Assn Office of Intellectual Freedom by Carolyn Forsman (via Carolyn Forsman)
I think I’m going to have to give this a DIY try.

boym card holder

This blueprint business card holder is a great gift for my architect father. It’s designed by Boym, whose designs I usually don’t like understand (particularly his “Buildings of Disaster” series with the $110 minitures . But maybe he floats your boat, check out his website at www.boym.com.
This and other designs are $27 at shopcomposite.

pentagram
I need to remember that Pentagram makes a calendar when December rolls around. This is perfect for the friend who appreciates minimalism and loathes the barnes-and-noble stock calendars. The lovely simplistic type is sublime.
Get it at kenknight.com $22 for desk size; $36 for wall size. Also, set a reminder to order one for ’08!

Phototastic.
I’m not a picture person, by any means. I mean, I wanted moocards as bad as the next guy, but I don’t have ANY pictures.
But I’m SO doing this fab project! Curbly.com user Alttext made this amazing photowall. It’s the perfect thing to fill up my horribly sad, blank, unpaintable wall in rented apartment.

Chalkboard Paint!
Martha knows all. Including how to make an oh-so-awesome chalkboard calendar. I’ve always eyed the chalkboard cans in the store, but have always been reluctant. It’s so much more intriguing now that i know you can vary the shades!

musicovery
Check out musicovery.com. It’s a really fun site that allows you pick your genre and your mood and (voila!) a whole new slew of music starts to play. You have the option to click “hit” and “non-hit” as well -so you can listen to your faves, but discover some great music on the way.
And isn’t the design oh-so-lovely?
